Looking to see what a nice custom kitchen would cost, the room is 12x15. No appliances, no flooring. Just need cabinets and counters (granite/marble). 1 non-load bearing wall removed.

I just renovated our kitchen and the size is about the same as yours. I had semi-custom cabinets made with all the bells and whistles (shaker-style maple wood doors, full plywood construction, soft-close guides, slide-outs, lazy susans, etc.) and it cost me $17k delivered to my door. The countertops we did were Silestone (engineered stone) and with the counters, full-height backsplashes and bartop we needed 3 slabs. Cost was $1,100 a slab just for the materials and another $5,500 for labor. If we went with marble, the slabs would have cost more. From what I saw, it would be about $2000 a slab for the nice stuff. I ended up installing all the cabinets myself but the quotes I got beforehand varied between $6,000 and $12,000. This is a bit high because it included raising the ceiling 9" and moving a penninsula outward 3 feet. I also re-wired the entire kitchen. Given the time taken to complete the electrical work, I'd estimate the cost at $2,500. Good Luck!

No one can give you a definitive answer based on the information you have given. Based on experience and the size of the room, you should be thinking at least $15,000 to have a contractor do the job. Kitchens get very expensive very fast.

Best advice is to come up with a plan on paper, choose the style of cabinets, countertops, hardware, plunbing fixtures, etc. and then solicit bids from remodeling contractors who specialize in kitchen work. To get honest estimates, make sure all are bidding based on the same plan and choices of materials. Keep in mind that estimates are usually free.

You can carefully measure your kitchen and maybe take some pictures from different angles of what is there now. Take that information to the kitchen specialists at Lowe's or home Depot and let them work up a plan on their kitchen design computer for you. They should let you have a copy for free. You can even let them price it out and give you an estimate on installation. You might not want to buy from either of them, but it is a good starting point.

Good luck with your kitchen project.

I'm going to be remodeling my kitchen and my cabnits alone (maple shaker style) are going to be $15,000 that is without installation. My kitchen is very close to yours in size. Maybe a little smaller. I have received 5 quotes. One as low at $9,000 (I didn't feel comfortable with the guy, something wasn't right) and have gotten a quote as high as $25,000. The quote I'm going with is from Home Depot. I have a friend in the tile, marble and granite business so I'm getting my counter tops at cost. I haven't gotten the info on that yet.

I got cost estimation from Lowe's for 12x12 is around $15,000. That includes everything, moldings, toe-kicks, drawers, knobs etc etc, everything that comes with cabinets of your choice. The cabinets are in different sizes, so they have pre-measured cabs, not really custom measured for you. They only produce whatever you order, and that makes it 'custom'. Plus $80 sqf for granite countertop, additional $2/inch for polished edges. I would say $20,000-25,000 for your 'custom' kitchen including wall removal. Tax free if they install it for you, but you have to pay installation fee, which is slightly less than tax.

My kitchen now is from smaller local company, costs little bit more than Lowe's but completely custom made.
