Best OTC relief for pain is Ibuprofen. You can take upto 600 mg twice a day with food.If it hurts your stomach take tylenol i.e. Acetaminophen.Percocet has 325 mg of acetaminophen in it.Take extra strength tylenol.Or if you want to you can also ask your pharmacist for Tylenol NO.1 It is a low dose codeine containing tylenol but it will be addictive like percocet. If you are in states you can take Aleve it is better than advil and tylenol both but take it after eating because sometimes it hurts stomach.

As far as muscle relaxant is concerned look for any pain killer containing Methocarbamol. That is the muscle relaxant in robaxacet .There is an aspirin that has methocarbamol as well that is Aspirin night time.If you have robaxacet avaialble where you live that is good because it has muscle relaxant and pain killer both in it.If not than just ask your pharamcist about any product with methocabamol they'll help you out (well Hopefully)

Take care.

Try Soma, it will relax any muscle, 350 mg, 3 to 4 times a day. My wife takes it but only give her two a day. They will make you sleepy. About a month ago I had some of the worst muscle cramps in my legs that I ever had. I took just one of the Soma's and I slept for 6 hours or so, but the muscle cramps were gone and haven't any cramps in those muscles since. No way would I ever take 1000 mg of aspirin, or any other drug at that level. It would seem to me that you should want to find the problem in that area, rather than taking any kind of meds. Why don't you go to a chiroprator and let him/her xray the pain area. You might just need a slight minor adjustment. Then it will be gone and you won't need any pain meds or relaxers. What I do when I have a sore or painful back is, I have my wife lay some hot moist heat, like a towel soaked in hot hot water, wrung out and then placed on my back. I have her do this a few times until the skin turns slightly red. I have her feel along both sides of my spine muscles, and if she finds what feels like a knot, I have her take her thumb or point of her elbow, and put pressure on the knot. It will hurt, but when she is done, it doesn't hurt. She then massages both sides of my spine using Aspercreme and in just a little while it feels great. I am usually on the computer quite a bit, and when I get into those addicting games, my back begins to hurt in the muscle next to my shoulder blade. Sometimes I'll set in the chair with a gel ice pack and lay against the area, while I am playing the games. May be your problem also. Good luck to you sir.

Working with a chiropractor as well is a good call. Alieve is the only one that works for me (otc) but I only use it when I can otherwise not move.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses (fastest) or a couple of bananas daily (maintanence) - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Hello,
I found many interesting info about sciatica here: http://curesciatica.toptips.org

While looking for a miracle cure, it has to be understood that sciatica pain in itself is not a disease. It is actually a symptom or a group of symptoms with an underlying cause that needs to be targeted if some sort of permanent pain relief is what one is looking for. But one thing is absolutely clear. Incorporating a few exercises that have a beneficial effect on sciatica pain in daily regime is of great help and whether a patient is taking drugs or not, these exercises ensure that his muscles are kept in a toned condition that lessen any flare up of pain. Just a few stretching exercises can bring about a drastic change in the levels of pain and signify the importance of exercise in the management of sciatica pain.

Try DELSYM its an over the counter cough medicine that has been proven to have pain relieving properties. It might make you sleepy. My doctor told me about this. Also try valerium that you can get at a health food store. The DELSYM you should be able to get at any place they sell cough syrup. I can not believe he took your meds away. I'd see a pain doctor. Surgeons are like that tho. My regular doc fills my narc prescriptions. Did he even wean you-that could be why the muscle spasms are there. Go see your reg doc/not the surgeon.
