Humans have done a lot of things and have come up with many other ways that are more horrendous and evil than celebrating Christmas the wrong way.
God knew that we would all sin and fall short of his glory, that's why Jesus gave up his life as a sacrifice for payment of "all" our sins.
I think that God cares the most about us having a personal relationship with him.
The dynamic of our hearts towards God will have an effect in how we conduct our lives.
I think God is pleased with the person that spoils the kids just as much as the person that worships Jesus' birthday only.

God definitely cares if we know the true meaning of Christmas because it's a pagan holiday. Nowhere in the bible is there any record of Jesus, his disciples, or any of the faithful ones in the Old Testament celebrating the winter solstice or their birthdays. God does not approve of it, but he rather condemned it (Leviticus 18:3,4, Jeremiah 10:2, Ecclesiastes 7:1) The Israelites were commanded not to do as the other nations did. The other nations celebrated birthdays, as was their pagan custom. No true follower of God should celebrate this or any other "birthday". BTW, we all know Dec 25 isn't the day, but it is the day of the Winter Solstice celebration of pagans! It's really the "Rebirth of the Sun", not "the Birth of the Son". Wake up, people!

Actually, the bible does not command us to celebrate the birth of our savior.
We are only told to have communion in rememberance of Jesus Christ and what he came here to do for us and accomplished.
The fact that we as Christians celebrate the birth of our Savior is not a bad thing, just not commanded.
Gifts are given at least in this house, to remind us of the gifts brought to Jesus Christ by the wise men. They were mostly practical items with one item being special and that was the gold.
So, we do it this same way, mostly practical things that are needed and one special gift, not necesarily expensive, just something they have been dreaming of having that they do not really need, just want.
The commercialization of Christmas is done by believers and non believers alike and will not change. We decorate our houses so that the lights can be seen from the moon, so to speak.
In the end, all that matters to God is what is in our hearts. If we only think about the commercial part of the season, then God knows that. If our heart is set on the real reason for the season, then God knows that.

i don't think god minds that we buy presents and actually he probably kind of enjoys it in gods own way. however, it reminds me of one of my favorite scriptures from isaiah where gods basically says our thoughts are not his thoughts and our ways are not his ways so i think we're putting our own emmotions into this scenario. any who, back to the Q at hand, the presents make everyone in the family feel good and it shows that we care about our family and think of them highly enough to brave the crowds to get them a presents even if they are basically shallow and superfluous so the presents and spending time together couldn't be a bad thing. it probably would be nice if we would include disadvangtaged people on our shopping list as in essence, to me, that is more the essence of christmas than worshiping in some building. trust me, i doubt christ has any insecurity issues about us not being at the candlelight mass.

God is probably amused that early Christians basically eliminated the celebration of the winter solstice by pagans and replaced it with a celebration of his son.

Christmas and Easter are both originally pagan holidays.
there is a church in the north of Scotland that celebrates neither because of this.
but i don't think god cares, as long as you are true to yourself.
its some priests that do most of the ranting if we don't agree with how they believe we should think.

i deffo think god minds...apart from good friday when jesus died on the cross i think god would also want us to celebrate jesus birth at this time...i am guilty of overspending and buying presents(going way over the top) but when it comes down to it christmas is just what it is, christ...mass..a day to celebrate his birth...even though we only think about the gifts and a meal ...and booze....i do it also, but deep down when i think about it, its about jesus...

Jeez! Is it Christmas already? Seems like only yesterday.......!
Thank god for Christmas! I love it! I'm grateful to 'god' for being the cause of it, but he has very little to do with it now. Good thing too. It's high time we ceased believing in this god stuff. This is the 21st century, for Pete's sake!

Christmas is actually the pagan holiday of Yule. So no, I don't think I'm overdoing it.
