Yes.
The Taliban were the government harboring Al-queda in Afhganistan. The are directly responsible for 911.
Unfortunately, that is a NATO job now as U.S. forces are bogged down with a purely unnecessary war in Iraq.

The situation is more complicated than that. We came for Al-Queda, which the Aghan government of the Taliban were harboring. The taliban want their power back. The Al-Queda want us all dead. They both call themselves Muhajadeen. Then, there are others in this country that call themselves Muhajadeen, who fight against both the Taliban and Al-Queda. Then there is Pakistan. In the US, we see Pakistan as an ally... here... they are considered the enemy. The taliban originally came from Pakistan, and that is where they now are based. Until we can freely enter the nation of Pakistan, or until Pakistan quits playing both sides and finally picks a side to be on, the taliban, with the mutual relationship with Al-Queda will continue to be a threat. Last week, there was a bill that went through parliment, offering all the "Muhajadeen" groups, except Al-Queda, amnesty to come back into the fold of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and end this war. It has just as much opposition as support. It is the responsibility of the nation of Afghanistan to defeat the Taliban, it is our responsibilty to defeat ALL who threaten us. Until we get Pakistan to play ball, this will continue.

SURE! just as soon as we catch Osama Bin Laden and win the war in Iraq!
The Taliban should have been #2 on our list, but, seeing how #1 is still very much a free man and the Taliban run more of Afghanistan than the "coalition" does, you may as well be asking for pet unicorn.

Ah, seems to me that we have been trying that now for almost 4 years. We are so bogged down in Iraq that the Taliban and Osama just go about their everyday life without fear of being caught.

The US citizens should vote out all NEO CONS as they are a menace to productive society.
We should have eliminated the taliban in '02, but Bush didn't want to... why?
