I got my lip re pierced yesterday. The first time i got it done last year it barely hurt and there was no blood..this time it hurt alot more and it bled. Is that because they did it in the same place? How long should it bleed? Today im still getting a little blood, but not much.

Also..my lip isnt even swollen yet? And i was wondering if theres any way to speed up the healing process.

also i need advice on taking care of my piercing. Ive been cleaning the outside with peroxide and cleaning it in the shower, also rinsing with sea salt water. can i rinse with mouthwash? why or why not??

Ok, the first answer is total bs.

You can pierce through scar tissue, it may hurt a little more, but it's not a big deal when it comes to healing or anything else.

The bleeding should stop very soon, it's not totally normal, but it's not uncommon either.

Sometimes piercings don't swell very much, my lip barely had any swelling (done 3 times - twice through scar tissue)

proper aftercare will speed up the healing process, which you are not following. Peroxide will dry out the piercing and make it take longer to heal. Sea salt soaks 2-3 times daily is all you need. Dont use mouthwash for thesame reasons as peroxide. Harsh cleaners really aren't needed to heal a piercing. Do not rotate the jewelry, and follow the LITHA (leave it the hell alone) method, and you will end up with a happier piercing.

A little bleeding is normal, it should stop soon. Try to keep your head elevated when you sleep, that should help. It probobly did hurt more this time because there is scar tissue from when you last got it pierced. Your lip might not swell, mine didn't the second time i had it done either.

The best way to heal you're lip fast is to not play with the piercing and try not to move it at all except once a day or so to clean it with warm water. It is best to do this before you go to bed or while your in the shower.

To take care of your piercing, rinse your mouth out with a mixture of half plain mouthwash and half water- if you use straight mouthwash it will irritate and dry out your piercing, if you can find it use alcohal free mouthwash. You can also use sea salt soaks. For these dissolve about a 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt in warm water and soak for 30 seconds or so. If you make it too strong or soak too long then it will irritate your piercing and it will take longer to heal.

For one thing, a piercer should never pierce over the same spot. Thats sacr tissue, plus after a while of having a piercing, you skin forms an artificial tube (thats where the lil lump comes from) It's bleeding because he probably broke through that. Dont use peroxide. It's going to dry out the area around the piercing and kill friendly bacteria, which will slow down the healing process. Use Bactine if you can. You can get it at any drug or grocery store. I used that on my lip and it didnt get infected. Clean it about 3-4 times a day. No more or no less. Keep rinsing with sea salt and luke warm water once a day. Also the piercer should have told you to use mouthwash. Try and use the yellow listerine and mix it half water and half listerine. Try not to use way too much and if you have to then mix 1 part listerine and 2 parts water (we dont wanna kill the friendly bacteria. If you have a cup of juice or something try not to take little sips, if you do dont rinse after every sip or anything. Rinse every time you eat, drink, smoke (if your a smoker) or drink alcoholic beverages, but you should try to keep away from alcoholic beverages because the yeast can cause you to get a yeast infection in your mouth, believe it or not. Good luck with your piercing, let me know how things work out.
BTW I never said you can't pierce through scar tissue I just said you shouldnt.

Gah. Peroxide in a new piercing = badbadbad. It's much too harsh.. Use plain regular dial soap on the outside and rinse with a mouthwash/brush your teeth for the inside of the piercing. I know everyone says not to use listerene (sp?) because of the alcohol init. But if you dilute it to about 2 parts water 1 part mouth wash, you should be ok.

For the first girl that commented, since I didn't read any of the others... You CAN repierce scar tissue. As long as the scar tissue isn't TOO thick or mishapen.

My boyfriend got his tongue repierced over scar tissue, and he didn't have any swelling compared to the first time where he swelled up pretty badly. It's all on how your body takes it. You may or may not swell.

SeaSalt Soaks are very good for a new piercing if you're doing them correctly. I'm not exactly sure of the amount of salt to water you're supposed to do, though. There's a fourm on the "Tribalectic" website. Search Yahoo for Tribalectic and you'll find it. But they're very knowledgable about piercings there and they can help you with almost any piercing worry you may have.
