Adopting a kitten is a huge responsibility, and it may be that your mum doesnt think you have the time or money to take care of a kitten just yet. A shelter will normally have to have parent consent (will not allow anyone under 18 to adopt), and ensure you have a suitable household etc to adopt. Remember, while kittens are cute, they are like little kids - they will chew, poo, pee, rip up everything, get under your feet and cost a lot of money (you need to keep up-to-date vaccinations, worming, flea-treatment, food, toys, litter, scratching post etc etc). Your mum probably see's this aspect rather than the "cute kitten" aspect.
I used to work in the cat shelter, during kitten season and I have seen MANY kittens and many people wanting to adopt them. I also have three of my own, so I can tell you first hand they're not all cute and fluffy. A kitten will need someone to play with it when you're at school, or they get bored and become destructive. They also need to be fed 3-4 times per day for the first couple of months.
If you are still keen to get a kitten, you can take your mum into the shelter, speak to the adoption officer and show that you can be a responsible pet owner. Mums will always hear "oh, but mum I WILL take care of her, I promise" and most of the time its the parents that take care of the pet... That's not to say you will do this, but you have to look at your mothers persective, and this may help you convince her that you are responsible enough!
As an alternative, try looking at the adult cats, or older kittens (over 6 mths) - these guys desperately need homes, as everyone goes straight for the kittens, and you don't have to go through the painful kitten stage.
I would recommend going in together and speaking with the adoption officer - your mum will see how keen you are and understand the implications and costs - and it will also help you determine if you can provide the perfect home for this kitten.
I hope this helps and good luck - whatever cat you do decide to get, even in the future, they are well worth all the effort and money (though at times I do questions this lol!)!

thanks for adopting! there are distinctive accessible cats that you'll discover the perfect one. First, examine the shelters website and note in case you could print out the equipment at homestead. examine criteria too - it will make the adoption procedure bypass a lot swifter. see you later as you're the region, make positive you examine the accessible animals. The cat you've an interest in might want to be followed by the point you get there, besides the undeniable fact that it supplies you an concept of what's offered. once you bypass to the safeguard, i might want to bypass with the cat that you merely won't be able to get out of your options. As one poster reported, cats in shelters are not continually themselves, so study the playing cards that incorporates the cat, refer to the workers they could have extra options. also, make a level of searching at that shy cat contained in the back of the cage. they are in many situations the sweetest cats on the humane society. Oh, and ask team about what their prominent cat is. the workers in many situations have a favourite it truly is been on the safeguard for a lengthy time period, has the most excellent personality, and no you would possibly want to figure out why the cat continues to be there.

Well, you should check how much getting:
A) the cat
B) the litter box
C) the shots
D) food
E) Extra stuff - costs. Then talk to your parents about how you expect to make the money. This will impress them that you know what you are getting into. Then, take them to see the cat. Talk about how fun it will be, and that you will clean the box everyday (and if you do it's eaiser trust me). Hopefully your parents will like how much like an adult you are acting.
These tips should help. Good luck getting your cat. Keep in mind that the cats looking for homes in the newpaper need homes too and older cats are just as good.

Tell your mom that you are going to take care of the cat, and keep that promise if you get the cat.

You must clean the litter box, make sure the cat doesn't get lost, feed it, and give it water.

Also, give your cat a little tender love and care.

in my experience, most moms will give in to really really cute things. so really, you just have to get her to look. Tell her you just want to look at them...and then you just want to pet this one. and don't forget the pouty face and some major sucking up! but try not to whine.

Most importantly, tell her you'll be in charge of feeding the cat (which is way easier than the litter) or something....and actually DO whatever you agreed to. this will help you get more things in the future. Good Luck!

um, first of all i basically am just tryin to earn some points here by answering an easy question. All you have to do is make her a promise that you will take care of it. You might add in a few easy household chores, or offer a weekly back, foot, or hand massage. It works on my mom all the time. That is how i got my turtle!

Okay, you have time to prepare, to butter her up so to speak. Start cleaning up and doing chores and extra things BEFORE she even asks you. Umm. Make her yummy treats, draw her a picture of a kitten, umm. Ask her nicely and make a promise (that you will keep) to clean up after it, to feed it, and to take care of it. Show her the website. http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=adopt_familyadoptions

Tell her that kids who have pets are emotionally healthier, I heard it somewhere. Also tell her that it will help you learn responsibility.

Plus tell her you could be saving it's life.

I think the person who said have her hold it had a great idea too!

Good luck!!!
