They looks at EVRYTHING. Nothing is hidden. They will find out everything about you, even things you think nobody knows and they will ask you about it. You lie, your gone. Most depts will question neighbors (they know the real you and all the dumb stuff you may have done!) past employers. They look at Criminal records (sealed or not. You even have to explain every arrest, even if the charges are dismissed or you wre foung not guilty) credit, school records, military etc. They will know your life better than you. And they should. They are giving you a lot of power. The right to tell other citizens what to do and take away their freedoms. You have that power 24/7 and the ultimate power to take a life. Being a cop is not a job. It is a lifestyle. Once you are a cop, you are never just a regular person anymore. You look at everything different. People look at you different and treat you different both on and off duty. So, to answer your question, yes, they will find out about HS stuff. Will some minor this in HS or even beyond stop you? Probably not, as long as it is minor and wasn't repeated. They don't like patterns that show a disregard for the law. I've known guys who were not hired for simply having to many speeding tickets because it shows contempt for the law.

The police always have a person who gets dunked at the county fair. They check your background to see if you were interested in swimming/diving/or scuba. They also check your grades in drivers education class because the chief frowns on too many crashed
prowlers.

Anything which indicates that you are not worthy to be a police officer, like a criminal record, unreported spousal abuse, erratic behavior, and the list goes on and on.
