This depends on your school and style. Some contests are based on age, others are level of experience, but more commonly weight class.

Do you need to know it? No, they will weigh you in before the tournament either the night before or the day of.
However....
It's a good idea to keep track of your weight if you plan on competing. If it is a local tournament with mostly recreational Judoka or beginers then cutting wieght isn't a big deal. It's good to know the weight classes. And know your weight in both pounds and kilograms. 60 klgs is 131.5 lbs 66lgms is 146lbs and so on. So if you weigh 150 lbs normaly maybe you might want to lose 4-5 lbs and go to a lower weight class so you are bigger than the others in the group.

13 years training in Judo 12 years of them competing.
