Used coffee grinds. Helps the soil retain moisture, that way you don't have to water as often and adds something so that it grows better.

Water. You could also try miracle grow potting soil. Most plants need to be repotted in new potting soil every so often, like 6 months. The nutrients plants like in the soil is fobic acid created when dead leaves and detritus decays (as in the case of the coffee grinds mentioned above), or nitrates or phosphates are good for the soil nutrients.
