I would say that I am pretty comfortable cutting all of my children's hair. My daughter says she wants layers. Does anyone out there know step by step what I would need to do to do that for her? Thank you very much!! :D

Ok ok...I think I'll take her to the salon. lol I didn't think it was that hard...would it be too hard to do on even my own hair?

Actually... its not so hard to give layers. Have her flip her head upside down and cut straight across at whatever length you want. It will automatically layer! My grandma showed me ** she used to be a hairdresser**

The procedure for layering hair depends on the length, and how short the desired length is.
The only style I would feel safe in explaining would be the basic shag. To do this one, Cut the hair on top of the head to the desired length, then pull the rest of the hair up to the top of the head and cut to match. If done properly, when that person hangs their head upside down, all the hair will be the same length.
If this does not make total sense to you, I highly suggest that you spend a few bucks, and take her to someone trained to cut hair.
You may, as you say, feel comfortable cutting all your childrens hair, but if your daughter is a pre-teen or teenager, you could traumatize her.
Spend the money.
Good luck to you both.

No offense, but you really should spend a little money and take her to a hairdresser. Cutting layers can be very tricky and you could really screw her up fast if you're not careful.

I 'd say go to a salon. If shes a tween or a teen, shell hate you for messing up her hair. its a safe bet with them since theyre proffessionals

i wouldnt recommend you follow this but i think im right.. well this is what i would do,: first i would measure how much i would cut off first like (it depends on how short she wants her layers to be) if she wants them ear length to shoulders then it would be .... ok im sorry i really am confused i can only see what im doing..... just think of stairs... it really just depends on how long she wants the front to be, after that the rest is just obvious i guess
