The "Pack & Play" has reached its capacity. He does not want to sleep in a grown up bed yet and we want to have some type of rail or bumper system to prevent rolling.

For traveling, we've tried the Travel 'N' Trundle by Small Fry that is a portable bed that goes on the floor. It is easy to set up and has a carry bag -- all for about $50. Check out the website below. Good luck!

If your child is pretty disciplined then one fun thing you can do is build him a "nest" which can consist of any of the following: pillows, blankets, couch cusions and a sleeping bag/blanket he picked out. This is a great option because you don't have to worry about him falling on the floor, it's fun, its quick and easy, it feels safe and special if he's nervous about sleeping in a new place and it can be set up anywhere in a room (like next to your bed if he's scared).
All you have to do is make a cozy, comfortable place on the floor for him to sleep that is cusioned enough so that he doesn't get uncomfortable in the night. Think of it as literally building him a nest to sleep in.
I've found this to be the easiest way to travel with a child because you don't have to take anything extra in the car (except a blanket or sleeping bag) and it's fun for a kid- helping build a nest is a great way to keep them entertained and get their energy out before bed time.

Just make him a comfy bed on the floor in the corner of the room. He'll feel secure nestled in the corner and it should be a lot of fun.

At 2.5 years he should be getting used to a bed. Placing pillows on the sides to prevent rolling and make sure there aren't anything that he could fall on and hurt himself.

Take Care,

For travel.... if you are staying in a hotel have him sleep with you in a King bed. My son is 2 and sleeps fine in a double bed on his own. We ask for extra pillows and put them around him, never had a problem and we travel alot. You can also try a sleeping bag he picks out himself. Place the bag against the wall he should not have any problems.

Two words:

Sleeping bag.

Can't fall off the floor now can you? And the zippered bag prevents too much rolling.

Or you can get one of those bed rails that doesn't attach to the frame but slides under the mattress. I don't think they fold up though.

I've seen portable bed rails that you can put on a "big" bed. He might go for those?
