My daughter has been very tired lately. She is 12 1/2 months old and has been teething. Maybe that has something to do with it, but I am not sure. She will sleep for an hour or two then wake up and eat a little and then after another hour be ready to go to sleep again. She doesnt have very much energy and doesnt want to eat much food. She just wants her milk. Is this normal? What is causing this?

It sounds like she is teething or could have a cold. Both of them could cause her to be quite tired. Are you giving her Tylenol? That could cause her to be tired as well. How long has this been going on? If only a day or so then just keep an eye on her and make sure you keep giving her fluids and light meals-like cream of wheat or scrambled egg-something easy on the tummy if she does have a cold and isn't feeling well. Even plain toast is fine. If it's been going on for longer than a few days and you feel that something seriously isn't right than call her doctor. You know how her normal behavior and temperament are. has she been sick before how did she act then? If this is way out of the ordinary then there may be cause for concern. But it does sound like something that will pass. Keep checking her fever and give her lots of hugs and cuddles. We all have off days and babies do too. Good luck it's always worse on the parents than on the kids when they aren't themselves. Oh and if it's and ear infection then she probably would be pulling at her ear and waking up a lot probably crying.

Teething is very painful and stressful. It is very common to have a lowgrade fever and runny nose while they are teething. I wouldn't stress too much. If she stops taking in fluids then seek help, but as long as she is drinking fluids she is getting enough nourishment to make it through this short period of growth. It is ok to give them Motrin 1 tsp to help with the pain. This does not sound like an ear infection unless she is pulling on her ears.

If she is teething, that could be waking her up frequently. The pain associated w/ the erupting teeth certainly disrupts sleep. That being said, I would not rely on a posting to diagnose this problem and would probably visit the doctor.

It is probably a combination of small things - growth spurt, teething, allergies...

It is obviously enough to make you worry so I would make an appointment with her pediatrician. It is much better to be safe than sorry. It is only a win win situation because either she'll come out with medicine to make her feel better or you'll come out with a peace of mind feeling better.

Take Care,

You should try to do something to lessen her pain. Try Infants Tylenol or Motrin and Orajel. Also, cold carrots and thick beef jerky worked on my kids to help relieve discomfort.
