All of the answers about crunches, sit-ups and other ab exercises are fine. They should all strengthen and tone the ab "muscles". Now if you still have excess fat over these muscles, then you will still not have a flat stomach.

You need to combine those exercises with other means of effectively reducing body fat. Aerobic type exercises (running, cycling, inline skating, etc...) and a low-fat diet.

The diet and type of aerobic exercise part are all personal choices, but the idea is that you need to reduce body fat, which is what turns that potential 6-pack into a keg (or even mini keg). You just can not "spot reduce" as our bodies burn fat from various sources when exercising with little to do with which muscles are being used, especially in the case of calisthenics.

Best of Luck !

Get on the floor flat of your back and do sit UPS by touching your toes at first 25 times work into a hundred. Spread your legs out and touch your head on the floor as many time as you can. I have a cheap device that has a spring in the middle put your feet in each stirrup and you have a handle bar attached to the top of the spring, lay flat with your feet in each stirrups and your hands on the handle bar and pull yourself up a 100 times that tighten those muscles real fast. You can do a lot of things by yourself that will sure you of a flat tummy but have to do it everyday not just every now and then. Everyday religiously or waisting your time .

If you are looking for the one minute answer, its yoga and diet, again ,yoga and diet, and at the risk of repeating myself, yoga and diet, you could if you choose to go though a million sit ups or crunches a day, but if you are not inclined to take the painful rout, then stick to the original answer, diet being the primary mover, theres no such thing as spot removal, if you lose you lose everywhere.pick up a yoga book at the local library, and learn discipline.

Just good old fashioned: "Sit-Ups" and "Crunches"... Just put your feet underneath, your sofa, and pull yourself up with your knees up , and touch your elbows to your knees, and for crunches, you simply do those but just half way, until your tummy starts to burning, and do these for about 30 minutes a day, and for about 3 days, two days off, and then 4 days and two days off, and then 5 days and 1 day off, until your body gets so used to them, that you can successfully handle doing them each & everyday!! You'll have a "Flat-Tummy" in no time, Flat!!! Smile!!!

planks, lay on your stomach with your legs straight and together. then prop yourself up on your elbows and forearms and toes and make sure your arms make a 90 degree angle and your body is straight, your butt isn't popping up and your back isn't arched... look at ivillage.com too, they have tons of great ideas! good luck
