It's higher than your stomach, on your right side, right under your ribs. It can also hurt in your back. It can feel like spasms and cramps at the same time. If you have it most of the time you will know.
In my case, when I would lie on my stomach, I could feel like there was a ball under me at that location. I would always get up thinking something was under me and try to push it away.

Do Gallstones Hurt

2017-01-11 18:56:08 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

With most people, if you have gallstones, you would most likely have pain in the right upper quadrant of your abodmen. Usually right beneath the rib cage. It can feel like a stabbing pain. It can also go to the back. You may also have nausea and vomiting. Most often shortly after eating a meal that is high in fat.

Personally, I had the extreme pain and nausea after eating ANY amount of fat and did not even have stones.

Hope I have helped.

I had gallstones after the birth of my daughter. It feels like severe pain and/or pressure in the upper right (your right) to upper middle section of your stomach. You may have several "episodes" before you have an acute attack at which point you will need surgery to have your gallbladder removed. An acute attack can actually be compared to childbirth. Trust me, you will know when this occurs.

Initial symptoms of gall stones include indigestion and pain and tenderness in the upper right side of your abdomen. Some people also get what is called referred pain which can be located in the area of the right shoulder blade.
