My son used to sleep with his eyes half open. Either one or the other, but not usually both. My ex-husband used to sleep with his left eye half open all the time. I don't think that there is anything "wrong" or harmful in it. My son didn't start this until he was 11 months old and it stopped when he was about 3 years old.

I don't know what causes this but isn't it the freakiest thing seeing them sleep like that. I have 7 year old boy that does the same thing. I also have a cousin that is now 29 years old and she slept with her eyes half open I don't know if she still does or not.

my 3.5 year old does this too and started around 2, the ped. said it is nothing to be concerned about and most people do sleep with their eyes partially open at some time. Not that you would know if you do or not....LOL

Everyone opens their eyes and closes them fully when they're asleep ... our eyes need 'air' and 'moisture' and the 'eye-opening' you are seeing in your son is 'normal' ... he's just 'taking care of his eyes' and you are 'noticing it more' now because of the 'time' you are looking at him coincides with the time he's 'sleeping with his eyes half open.'

I am 37 I have been doing it all my life. My son does it sometimes and he is 2, my nephew is 22 and he has been doing it most of his life as well. It is normal for some and does not cause any problems. Call your pediatrician and ask, I am sure he or she will ease your worries.

My daughter does the same exact thing with her eyes. I always close her eyes because it looks weird. But I believe that it is normal. Don't worry!!!!

i used to sleep with my eyes open, and my mom said if you run your finger gently down the center of the nose, they will close them. Worked on me I guess.
