Kidney infections mainly occur in women. This is because of the female anatomy where the anus and urethra are quite close together. Organisms which are normal in the bowel and around the anus, like E. Coli, make their way to, or are swept to the urethra. Incorrect wiping or intercourse increases the risk of this happening.
From there they enter the bladder, where they can cause cystitis.Cystitis is painful and uncomfortable. Sometimes they will go beyond the bladder, up the ureters (the tubes from the kidneys) and enter the kidneys. Here they can also cause infection called pyelitis or pyelo-nephritis. This is more serious as it may cause permanent kidney damage.
Some women are more prone to cystitis, in a few this is because of anatomical abnormality, in others no reason can be found. Some women are more prone to kidney infections, this is often because the virtual valve between the bladder and the ureter does not work properly allowing flow of urine, and infection, back up to the kidney.

yes they can re occure my daughter had them a lot last year she had so much time of work cos of them, if you have a water infection and dont get it treated it will then go into your kidneys and cause a kidney infection, you need antibiotics but if you drink plenty of water and also cranberry juice is very good to help flush the infection away

yes, they can re-occur. sometimes they can happen if u have a bad case of cystitis - the infection can travel from your bladder to your kidneys. if this happens, get yourself to the doctors for some anti biotics. also, drinking cranberry juice can help deter the bacteria from growing in your bladder.
