They obviously agree with animal sacrifice if they worship a God who loves animal sacrifice,
and that human sacrifice is at the heart of Christianity, what does that say about the God you worship?

Oh, and how many Christians do you think actually read the Old Testament?

lol@ "devil talk",

I guess that's what you revert to when the truth smacks too hard in the face.

And, notice how none of them actually answered your question, Cloe.
Bottom line, that God of the Old Testament clearly states "I am god, I do not change." AND "without the shedding of blood, there is no remission."

So, he not only told them they HAD to sacrifice animals to appease him, the new testament claims a human sacrifice was the only thing that would appease him now.

You're absolutely right.. their god loves this stuff and yet, instead of admitting it, they come at you with insults.

I would hate to give the wrong answer to this question, I know there are so many who can answer it much better.

At best, I can tell you that there is a reason for the New Testament in the Bible. In the beginning of time owning animals was the only source of income, food, etc... for the people - so when they 'sacrificed' their animals to God it proved how much they trusted in Him. There weren't as many sins back then, I suppose, so there wasn't as much to sacrifice. Also, God stated that the animals were 'beneath' man, so they had very little ranking.

As time went on and people changed so did the Bible, as did what God expected of his people. Now, instead of expecting them to sacrifice their animals He wanted them to give up adultery, murder, thieving and the such... all of the things that became more important to the people, the things that took their minds off of God. Giving up these things became their 'sacrifices.'

This is all entirely my own personal opinion. Honestly, I have no backing to support what I say. As a Christian I love my God, just as those from other religions love their 'Gods'. Each religion is different in their own way, each has something about it that another person may not care for. But as a Christian I can say that the God I love and trust proved many times throughout the Books in the Bible to be a loving, caring, and sympathetic God - but He is also a Father and disciplined when necessary. With no discipline or consequences for our actions where would we be today? Which is why, I believe, many of the religions stand by at least one same belief: "What goes around, comes around."

But, that's off track, which is why I wasn't originally going to even try and answer this question. Sorry if this didn't help - and please remember all of what I stated IS my own personal opinion, and there are many others who are better suited to answer it.

I would guess most people have a passing familiarity with the old testament, but I have no stats on that. even if they did read all of it, how much of it would they have actually thought about?

I think you are thinking of the old testament god if you are talking about blood sacrifices. New testament, new rules, hence christians not following leveticus too closely anymore while jews are more concerned with it. The idea of sacrifice suggests that something else is more important than you are, which is not necessarily a bad thing. My parents sacraficed a lot for me when they could have been selfish and made my life much harder. I make sacrifices for my students, even though they don't know the time and energy I give on their behalf. The big sacrifices Jesus asks are basically being kind even to jerks and helping others; not that much of a cost, if you are a true follower.

Why do those who are against Christianity not try to understand what the Bible teaches before they post questions that attack a faith that millions hold dear?

Let me try to answer your question, though I doubt any answer will suffice as I don't think you really don't want to hear a Christians answer.

Nearly every religion during the Old Testament times practiced animal sacrifice. The Jews did it because something had to pay for their sins. The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death, in other words, when you or I, or anyone sins, there is a price required for that sin, and that price is death. God loves man so much that He made an exception. He allowed an animal to die in order that mans sins might be covered, until the perfect time in history where He could send His Son, Jesus Christ so that He could die once and for all, for all mankind. And thus, effectively paying the price for mans sins.
That in no way means that God "loves" animal sacrifice, or human sacrifice. What it means is that He loves mankind so much He was willing to sacrifice His only begotten Son for them.
I was a soldier for 6 years, I love my country so much that I was willing to sacrifice myself for it.
I am now a parent, and I love my children so much that I am willing to sacrifice my life (if necessary) for them. Say for instance one of my children wondered out into the street, in other words they did something they shouldn't have. And lets say that a car came speeding down the street. According to some peoples logic, I should stand by and let the car hit them becasue it would serve them right for their mistake, but in reality, love takes over, and I would rush out into the street, possibly sacrificing myself, in order to save them from their mistake.
That, in a sense, is what God has done.
We (humanity) have made a mistake (sin), there is a consequince for our mistake (the speeding car/ the wages of sin is death), but our father loves us so much that He is willing to pay those consequinces for that mistake.
I hope that clears things up for you.

You obviously have your Bible mixed up. Only the Old Testament talks about animal and human sacrafice. The New Testament is mostly about Jesus and his life. After a while, God did not want any more sacrifices. He said no more vain offerings.
The God I worship is better than your god or whatever the hell you worship.

What humans think will get GOD to respond to their needs - is amazing. We kill and sacrifice everything, but have no proof there is a point to do this. Rituals are long (luckily some are short!) with long winded sermons.
GOD must be happier 2000+ years later - that humanity does not do this anymore. Now that we are toddlers, and not babies anymore.
GOD wants humanity to mature faster I bet, but luckily has the patience to put up with our stupidity and nonsense.
Please do not pick on humanity for being a toddler, while you are not, it looks bad to pick on people not as aware.
Just help as many as you can, and stay involved in your community. Humanity will some day in the future advance to the point of being mature enough to understand more what GOD wants. (I hope)
Peace.

You need to read both the old and new testament!
Where, in the bible, has GOD called for human sacrifice?

The bible references YOU many times, and not one reference is positive?

Why have you not mentioned those that teach their children and women to be human bombs?
Why have you not referenced those that forbid the female to go to school or the university?

Why have you not referenced those that change doctrine to suit their own agenda?

Too, didn't your mother teach you that if you have nothing pleasant or nice to say, keep your mouth shut!

Where does it say that God loves animal and human sacrifice?
As I recall in my studies of scripture it was man that first started killing each other. As to the animal sacrifice it was a temporary atonement for man on a yearly basis? to atone for his sin's or Adimic sin's? When Jesus was murdered on the stake those temporary atonement's were done away with. for Jesus atoned for our Adimic sin. That gives us an opportunity to have everlasting life if we want it? It's your choice?
See John 17:3 This is a requirement for life?

The Christian God does not require us to sacrifice animals or humans to him.
And what does your question say about you. It says you are an ignoramus.
