Change your font to Symbol. The pi symbol is the letter P. The capital pi (i.e., you type "P") is the one that looks like two capital I's. To get the characteristic curvy one, type a lowercase p.

In MS Word, go to Insert|Symbol. Under the Symbols tab, select the font to be symbol. Look for it in there. It is the last 4th letter in the 3rd row from top. Just double click it to insert in the document.
And be happy :-)
