hemisparesis = paralysis of half of the body. right hemisparesis = paralysis of the right half. Your left CVA is a major supplier of blood to the left side of the brain, so damage to the left side means right sided affectedness.

When the left side of the brain is damaged the right side will be affected, and visa versa.
