Just in relation to both your question and chatterbox15's answer, in which she says that we come from micro-organisms:

from a religious stand point, creation had always existed... from a science stand point they still don't exactly know... they speculate it's beginnings from the big bang theory (which may be correct)... however due to the law of conservation of energy, energy cannot be made (nor destroyed), which means that the energy for "big bang" must have come from some pre-existing body... which has the same problem of being explained... At the end of the day, it's just evident that God has created everything. All great scientists and mathematicians agree :)

We all originated from Adam and Eve. If they were not created, no one would exist either.

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Genesis 2:4-7
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens- 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground- 7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Genesis 2:18

Genesis 2:20-24
So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, 'for she was taken out of man." 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

This is a very good question if you're able to keep an open mind when looking at the possibilities posed by science.

No doubt we came from an original set of human genes... but were they contributed by Adam and Eve of the Bible? That's very, very doubtful according to science. The time proposed by the Bible for the existence of Adam and Eve is far to recent, thus taking them completely out of realistic consideration.

The latest thinking is that the earliest human DNA is derived from central Africa. There, science has found the skeletal remains of a female human who may have been among the earliest contributors to our modern-day gene pool. This ancient individual has been affectionately name Lucy and you can easily find out more about her by doing a quick on-line search.

the photos in "life on earth" by David Attenborough are amazing. Plus the book is so old now that you'll find it remaindered for a couple of quid somewhere.

Read that and you will get it. Please. I don't mean to come over rude, but I feel quite strongly about this. Once you dig how evolution and DNA are supposed to work, the penny will drop, and you'll find it pretty hard to see the universe any other way.

Adam is a key figure in Scripture. He is described as the "first Adam," the one who brought sin into the world. He made it necessary for Jesus, the "last Adam," to atone for all humans, and then rise from the grave with the promise of complete redemption for fallen man and fallen creation. If Adam was just a myth, we would not be able to fully understand the work of Jesus. If Adam and Eve were not real, then we ought to doubt whether their children were real too, and their children...and then we ought to doubt the first 11 chapters of Genesis, and so on. All the genealogies accept Adam as being a literal person, so their children Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:9,10; Luke 11:50,51) must be real too. Jesus was descended from Adam, and it is impossible to be descended from a myth.

We evolved its a proven fact. Living orgasms can just appear and grow from nothing i.e i always have snails/algae in my fish tank, i didnt put them there. However I do not think that people who believe in religion are stupid,in fact i envy them because i believe all they are looking for is comfort in a cruel world. Something to explain the things we know nothing about, mainly death,no-one wants to die and many of us are scared of dying, but if theres some other life afterwards some huge meaning/purpose to our lives after our death, surely people want to cling to this hope. After a while it becomes fact because we deny the sad facts. My auntie died of cancer in my arms a couple of months ago in my arms aged 43,beautiful, caring person, what i would give to know that she is somewhere else perhaps waiting for me. How beautiful does that sound......If i believed in this it would give me great comfort. So hang onto your religion, true or not its a wonderful thing to believe and in years to come where the evidence of evolution is overwhelming, people will still hang onto religion/myths for hope x

Evolution. From the one-celled organisms that, by chance, formed when the Earth was first formed, progressively, more and more complex creatures came to being. Processes like natural selection chose the best part of respective organism and kept creating a better version of whatever it was and humans came about around 200,000 years ago.

The big study of human gene pool reported by National Geographic, found that all humans came from a single female. Isn"t that interesting.?

Well, there's always the evolutionary model, where a group of apes became more human over a period of time.

There's also the group creation idea, where God created more than one couple. There are two different accounts of creation, you know (Genesis chapters 1-2).
