My daughter is 4.5years old, i split with her father 3years ago but we'd been living at his mother's house at the time. His mum let me and Faith stay even thogh her son n I had split;. He was staying at his NEW girlfriends house. When we were living at his mum's we had to share a room with Faith. when she was old enough 2get out of the cot we had 2put her in our bed so guess what 4years later she still wants 2sleepwith mummy! My ex and I have shared care of Faith and whilst with her father his nephew Faith's cousin he's 13years old told her there were monsters in her room! I'd not long gotten her in a routine of brushing her teeth, going to the toilet and having a glass of water 10mins b4 bed and it was working gr8 until she went back 2 her daddy's and was told that! Any1 with advice on how 2get her away from thinking there are monsters in her room, or how 2get her 2sleep in her own room we just brought her a new bed as well!

I wouldnt indulge her with "monster spray" (air freshener) because it might only validate what she thinks is very real.

Instead, tell her that her cousin was being very mean and that he was just trying to scare her and that monsters arent real.

Poor thing.......its really not your or her fault that she's having to deal with this. Make sure her dad knows about it too, so he can reinforce that there are no monsters.

Good luck

Every night check under her bed and in the closet with her and show her there are no monsters. You can get a calender and give her gold stars on nights when she has slept on her own, maybe with an extra treat like a cookie for desert.

She needs to feel secure. Sleep with her in her bed. When she falls asleep, leave the room. The next morning ask her how she felt.

you can put a night light in her room and tell her that the light will make the monsters go away.
