My family really needs to call Bangladesh, a country close to India but there has been rumors that we cannot use those $5 phonecards anymore because it's illegal? Is it really true? Then how do I call? It's an emergency!

Well. Phone cards were never legal in Bangladesh. BTTB does not give any license to use VOIP. So far some companies were using illegal antennas to provide such facilities. The new caretaker government is uprooting such companies. So you can't get line to call Bangladesh that easily.

Solution:
If the person you are calling has NWD facility, tell him to call you through EISD line. USA-Bangladesh call cost is 7.5taka/min (70 taka = 1 USD), so it is not that expensive. The caretaker government has urged BTTB to give license to some companies, so pretty soon, we will be having VOIP companies again in Bangladesh
