Let's say you have a credit card with JC Penny, for example, and then years later accidentally apply for the same card. Will this affect your current account? I know it's a weird question, but I was apply for a credit card and realized after submitting it online I already had that card.

It shouldn't do anything to your current account as long as your current account is still active (you had made a purchase or payment fairly recently).

They will probably either just deny that application or you may get "another" account with them.

If your current account is inactive, they may or may not approve the app.

Odds are if your current account is active, they will just deny the app.
