When i play with him and he growls playfully or barks, after a while he starts coughing and making like choking sounds, and it also happens when he plays alot even if he doesnt growl..What can i do to help him?

its not really an emergency situation, i think, because hes done it many times already b4 it started about 2 yrs ago , hes 5

You should call your vet and ask him. It could be anywhere from a compromised trachea (airway sometimes closes a little), or a heart condition. Either way only a vet can tell you for sure.

It may not be anything to worry about, but if you're wondering about it, you could at least call your vet. Sometimes a chronic cough can be a sign of something serious. At the very least, I would bring it up the next time you take your dog to the vet.

Some dogs do cough when they bark..these dogs often cough when on the leash aswell...I have a dog like this and he wears a harness not a collar for walking!!!

OMg. MY DOG DID THE SAMEEE THINg. i had to take him to the vet.. && they have to have take med. like a liqid cough med. and 2 types of pills.
