since you have only just started seeing the therapist (know by your other questions) Tell him your worries and say that you would like to give the therapy aboit more time before you think of medication. Tell him that your not ruling it out but want to take things slowly and see what he says. You can't expect a quick recovery from bulimia..no matter what form it comes in and even when you seek help its a bit of a journey. Hope all goes well for you, feel free to email me anytime

Prozac was (is) good for me. It didn't make me put on weight. It stopped me moping around and got me swimming, so although I'm no lighter, I'm slightly more pleasingly shaped.
Therapy is good, and therapy with pills is better. There is a right pill and a right dose for everyone. It takes a very long time to figure out what that is, and over time the right dose can change.
For the first two weeks on Prozac, I felt like I had morning sickness. Not fun, and the depression wasn't lifting. I stuck with it and the sickness went away, as did (very slowly) the worst of the depression. Over the following three or so years doc and me ramped up the dose, then took it back down again, and now I'm on a trickle feed (half the smallest tab per day).
The downsides? While the dose is still fairly high, your emotions are kinda not accessible to you. This is annoying. You'll end up taking the dose down once the utter blackness has cleared, just so you can get your emotions back.
The other downside? I wasn't exactly Mr Horny during the high dose periods. That was VERY annoying. But the black pit that is depression is too high a price for a few hardons.
Different people respond in different ways. Your experience may be very different. So far I've found that everything that Prozac does to you can be reversed by, er, not taking it any more.
So yeah, Prozac is fine. Go ahead.

Prozac affects people differently. For me, it suppresses my appetite and increases my energy level. However, I'm also clinical depressed and that is what the drug was designed to treat. You mentioned you have bulimia. That is a far more serious problem than putting on weight. I know that you feel the only way you can control your weight is to binge and purge, but that is not the way to deal wilth a weight issue effectively. The only way you will never gain weight is to burn as many calories as you take in. It also means that you have to be dedicated and exercise every day and if you don't want to exercise than you have to watch the amount of calories you take in. If you truly love yourself you will do both. If you seriously want to get better you will do both. It's not easy and requires committment and perserverence on your part. You'll probably hate it at first. But, the more you stick with it you will start to see amazing results. I lost a dress in a month and the only thing I've changed is the amount of exercise I'm getting and the amount of calories I'm consuming. I don't deprive myself of anything. If I want a candy bar, I have a fun size candy bar and then I take the stairs rather than the elevator. It's really up to you how you deal with this disease. You can be a fighter or a quitter. Exercise is the best way to deal with depression. You don't have to think about it you just do it. Exercise also releases endorphins which makes you feel better. You can take anti-depressants to feel better in the short term, but don't rely on them for too long. Therapy along with the drugs is the only way you will ever be better and not have to rely on drugs for the rest of your life.

Prozac is an excellent medicine, do not worry about your weight, odds are your pretty skinny by now. Anorexia made me lose 11 lbs in 1 month, I don't know what bulimia is like though.

Your therapist is the person to answer these questions, but I don't think that he would put you on medication that would increase your worry about gaining weight. He is there to help you but can't do so unless you tell him all your worries. Don't think that they are silly or not worth bothering him about. They obviously are or you wouldn't be looking for outside answers. It is good that you are having treatment for your problem but help the therapist help you, tell him everything, however small. He has the training to help you and will understand your worries and be able to explain who/where/what and why.

I have had a weight problem for years. Part of it was because I was depressed and didn't feel up to exercising. After I started taking Zoloft (After I lost a baby girl) I felt more up to getting out of the house, and I started exercising. I have lost about 20 pounds. I have another 40 to go.

prozac is quite a mild anti depressant, it can cause a small amount of weight gain or it can cause u to lose it....bulimia cant be ' cured' with meds. talking goes along way in dealing with it. and also anti depressants dont work by themselves, they only work if u really want to get urself thru this.
