Tingling is the most common symptom, some people may feel a pinching or burning sensation. Abreva is the only treatment that actually prevents the virus that causes the herpes (cold sore) virus from replicating, which means it will stop the growth of a cold sore in its tracks. It usually costs around $17, but it's worth it because it will last you forever and it will actually prevent cold sores from forming or getting worse.
If you refuse to invest in the benefits of Abreva, Herpecin-L is your next best option.

You'll probably get a tingly and/or itchy feeling about where the cold sore is. That's how my family and I are able to tell when we're getting one, may be different for you.

I get a sore, tingly spot on my lip. I use Carmax right way - that usually helps.
