If I am taking anti-depressants (Citalopram and Fluvoxamine), is it safe to take Ibuprofen? I've heard that taking ibuprofen w/ anti depressants can be deadly. Is this true? I've unknowingly taken two doses of medicine with Ibuprofen. Will I be okay?

As mentioned, ibuprofen does not appear to have any major interactions with either Celexa (citalopram) or Luvox (fluvoxamine) other than a risk of stomach bleeding, which is normal with meds like ibuprofen. However, lots of alarm bells went off on my Pocket PC when I combined Celexa and Luvox. You use of two SSRIs together need to be used with caution. As long as you are being monitored by your doctor closely, the likelihood of "serotonin syndrome" is very low. The relative risk and severity of serotonergic side effects and serotonin toxicity, with individual drugs and combinations, is complex. The serotonergic toxicity of SSRIs increases with dose, but even in overdose it is insufficient to cause fatalities from serotonin syndrome in healthy adults. The syndrome occurs in approximately 14 to 16 percent of persons who overdose on SSRIs. You need to watch for signs of sweating, shivering, or increased heart rate. If this occurs call your doctor immediately.

As far as your mentioning ibuprofen and other antidepressants, Ibuprofen has been linked to increasing levels of Prozac (fluoxetine), but I'm unaware (and my literature sources) of any deadly interactions.

I hope this helps.

No known drug interactions for Citalopram and Fluvoxamine with Ibuprofen. However, several other drugs were mentioned and Smoking which increases the rate Fluvoxamine is metabolized thus reducing its effect. For full info, check with your local pharmacy.

ibuprofen doesn't interact with either citalopram or fluvoxamine.

Next time, try calling your pharmacist......and stop listening to the advice of the yutz that told you that they were 'deadly'.

You will be fine. I have never heard that. If it were true my mother would have been dead a long time ago.
