Some people just want others to agree with them. I am Christian, but I like the fact that Atheists are here. If there were no Atheists, then what is so special about Christians? For every action there is a reaction. Atheists are baffled at Christian beliefs, just as Christians are baffled at Atheists beliefs. And these two groups co exist in R&S! Maybe there should be like a cyber war for R&S territory! LOL

I want you to know that I am writing in all sincerity.
I think that if you want to learn and have a greater understanding about other beliefs and why people hold to those beliefs especially Christians, then this might not be the forum for you. As you can see by my profile, I have been answering here for quite a while. In this section, it is unfortunate but Atheists, Agnostics, Deists, Christians, and a whole host of others are trying to defend and strengthen their position. In order to do this, they use all kinds of "dirty tricks". Sarcasm is the favorite, while generalizing comes in a close second. Accusing another of Ignorance or stupidity are also in many of the responses. Name calling does nothing to advance a cause.
Now I will ask you, why did you adopt the "handle " that you use.
For the Christian that is a very powerful truth.
You see in the Christian's belief we are all accursed. Therefore God is the God of the Accursed. It is when we come to the point that we realize that, and realize that there is nothing that we in ourselves can do to change that status, that we start to see that God has taken the initiative, and provided a way out of that accursidness.
God Bless
Bryan

I can only speak for myself, not others. I have no objection to atheists posting questions and answers in this section as long they are respectful. I find it interesting to learn about people and their beliefs or even their non-belief. I also enjoy sharing what I have learned through my study of the Bible. It is an important part of my faith to make public declaration of it to others. (Romans 10:10) It is always my goal to make a defense of my faith "before everyone that demands of YOU a reason for the hope in YOU, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect."(1Peter 3:15)

I will not pretend to know everything that I want to know about my Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ but I think your question is interesting. I am a fairly new believer...2 years...and I find that many people who post questions in this section seem very defensive because they are frequently judged by people who claim to be believers. People who believe in Jesus Christ and lead their life like he led his, do not judge others and asking an atheist why they are in the R&S section if they don't believe is, in my opinion, not the question of a believer. Of course atheists are here because they want an audience...same reason why believers are here. Being strong in faith, beliefs and love of Christ doesn't mean I know it all and that is why I am here...to learn, to be heard and to hopefully help bring someone to Christ.

You have a very valid point. I for one, as a Christian, look at questions posted in this section simply because they are interesting to me. I also believe that there are those who sincerely desire to understand why people like me believe the way we do, so I answer questions in an attempt to help them to understand. I also answer questions that I think would actually be beneficial to those who share my beliefs but who may be curious about something. I don't fault anyone who doesn't share my beliefs, nor do I think that only certain people should be able to answer or ask questions. When I have an issue with someone's answer, it is only when a question is directed specifically at a particular group (Christians, Jews, atheists etc), and someone who is not in that group that the question was addressed to answers the question in a mean and hatefully intolerant manner. That's when I myself take offense. I don't mind if an atheist answers a question directed at a Christian, so long as the person answering the question is respectful - not hateful in their response. If one doesn't agree with someone, that is their right, but if they don't agree, then they shouldn't take offense in a hateful manner to questions that weren't asked of them to begin with, but were asked of those who share the beliefs of the person asking the question. Does that make any sense?
I guess I'm saying that I agree with your question. I believe anyone should be able to read and answer or ask questions in the R&S section without others being offended. I just think that those answering such questions should do so with the understanding that if the question does not apply to them, then they shouldn't be rude, hateful or antagonistically disrespectful to those who the question WAS directed to. This statement applies to anyone of any faith or lack thereof. This was a good question!

I do not believe that your question is rude at all. You are honestly curious. I do think it's rude for anyone to say, "why are you here if you do not believe in God" There are pagans here, atheist, agnostic, Christian, Jew, Muslim, and the list goes on. We all have a right to be here. Just as I do not think it's wrong for someone who is married to answer questions from someone who is single, I don't think it's wrong for certain religions to be in this section.
I am the same way you are. I want to learn more about how others think. I enjoy studying religions, and that is what my degree will be in. So, to hear the way someone thinks directly from a believer or a non-believer, then it helps me to put some humanity to the subject of religion. I don't need to forget that I am studying about people, not just what they believe.

I think the R&S section should be open for anyone.
But instead of making fun of people's beliefs and God, we should be asking serious questions. Im not trying to offend anyone, but Atheists are usually the ones making fun of religion. If you wanna actually learn and understand then go ahead, but just keep the rude comments to yourself , Everyone.

I am a Christian, and understand where you are coming from. However, Christian faith grows in each person similar to a human being, babyhood to adulthood. So, some of the questions may come from "baby" Christians, and others from older ones. Does that help you understand a little better? Take care.

i am not asking questions here but giving my opinion to questions asked
we are all learning here , there every where
it is a gift from god [the will /want ,urge to know ] to learn
to question to provide the answer that stilled our own fear or doubt
to other questioners
the hard thing is choosing which to reply to or take serious

Actually I'm here to answer questions, not for the person asking because people asking questions usually already have their minds made up, but somebody reading might really want to know something.
