Usually, Art Styles are a construct of Art Historians who try and make sense of the trends in art that have paralleled or led social changes. With that in mind, there is one "current" art style that is working to establish its name in the grand narrative of Art History.

Post-modernism is the name of this contemporary "art" style. It is currently being compiled and organized by Social Constructivists in some very influential corners of academia. The root originators of the style have not been identified or recognized by any published Art Historians. It is in its infancy as a style and like all other styles is a reaction to a previous style of art. Post-modernism is a reaction to Modernism.

It is recognized as a style in its purpose of creating or solidifying cultural iconography that is a more accurate reflection of the culture that produced it. It is anti-hierarchical in its reaction to Modernism and as such it is unlikely that a single group of originators will be identified until it has become eclipsed by a more relevant contemporary style. It's history has been linked to the lineage of Western Arts but it has also consciously been tied to Eastern traditions as well as African artcraft.

It is an effort to make art a deliberate tool of social construction. It works to accept the unvarnished reality of a social order that only exists in the minds of those who are so fervently pursuing Post-Modernism as a social "~paradigm~". The goal is to establish cultural iconography that is unhindered by the baggage of cross-contextual references and assumes that art serves the needs of living people. It also uses a lot of writing to prop up the faulty view that art is a tool that can be used for any purpose. It is also very self-critical.

I quote Ferris Bueller when quoting John Lennon," A person should not believe in an "-ism," he should believe in himself."

Make art. Let the over-educated trustfund twits worry about -ism's.

There is, but we won't know it in our life time. 99% of -isms are named long after the fact. Ancient Greeks didn't wake up one morning and say, "I'm tired of Archaic--let's try Classical now!" We call the now something like post-post modernism, but I'm sure in 100 years art historians will come up with a more appropriate name.

Yes. Neonism. It is the same old playing with light using colors but some fantastic stuff has been started. I myself have given a few slams at it but am not the leading by any way shape or form..

I have heard about decontructism. It isn't main stream yet.
