This week I am having another soiree and said I would serve snails in a little garlic butter. Unfortunately the snails are off, but there are a few slugs sauntering round the green house. Could i use these and put them in old snail shells? Do you think I can get away with it after all they are both molluscs?

I tried this once but the slugs are hardened homeless types and don't take kindly to being forced into their new accommodation. However, soaking them in cheap vodka does make them maleable enough as they are easily manipulated in a drunken state. One problem though is the ensuing vodka flavoured garlic butter, which is rather unpalatable. Perhaps you could try other alcoholic beverages? A slug of gin might work.

I have been in the french culinary industry for many years now, believe it or not this has happened to me on one occasion (actually, we had run out of snails to be precise). We had a few discarded snail shells and decided to be creative.
You have to find a right sized slug which is quite a task. We served a couple up to an unsuspecting customer, although recieved complaints after when she claimed her meal was "not properly cooked" (still slimy apparently!)
I had no previous experience preparing slugs, perhaps it's to be expected. You can get away with it but they might notice a different taste.

First I am sorry to say I can not attend this week, but I am sure your idea will be spot on, especially if Prince C and old you-know-who show up. After all, I would like to think they at least on occasion kiss one another.
Slugs in garlic sauce will be an improvement according to some less elegant round here.
So, Mrs. I would say have a bang-up slug fest. You may start a new trend if things catch on.
As always, Mrs. Badgrumble setting the pace in terms of style, elegance, and of course, culinary creativity.

Many large slugs are very 'chewy' so to say, even when cooked. If you want to try something interesting and good, try to get a hold of some locusts to fry or make dates stuffed with crickets. Yes I'm serious here; people in North America & Europe are the only ones who don't normally eat all kinds of insects, but that's a cultural bias only, I've tried several kinds of bugs and they're delicious. Most are a bit nutty tasting.

Have a bit of respect for animals will you. Why not just cut your own fingers off and serve them in a little butter
