Saddle comfort is a personal matter. Best to go to your local bike shop to try out different saddles to narrow it down to what agrees with your behind. Comfort would depend on your body type, amount of riding you do, terrain, fitness level, shape of your butt, your weight, whether you suffer from numbness in the sensitive parts, etc.

Your seat may not be the right size for your sit bones, and a gel pad will NOT help it.
Your bike may be the wrong size, your seat may be adjusted improperly, or you may need new or better riding shorts (they make those for a reason, you know).
Get a bike shop to help you pick out a seat that fits you better, and remember to give it time if you haven't been on a bike in a while; everyone gets sore at the beginning of the season.

The same thing happened to me! The first day I rode it, my butt was sore for days but after that, I got used to it. I think you should just see how it feels after riding it for a while. If your butt doesn't get accustomed to the seat and it still bothers you after some time, then you should buy a gel pad for it. I don't think it's the amount of fat on your hips and butt because my mom had the same problem when she was riding my bike and she has more fat on her butt than I do.

I have look through the answers and I don't agree with most. Chances are you have never had you bike fitted and that is the first thing that needs to be done.
Seat discomfort comes from a seat not set properly, Seat height and the fore and aft position (back to front) Improper seat height can cause your hips to have a rocking motion that causes discomfort and the fore and aft. can cause your hips to be in the wrong position, and setting on parts of the body that can cause extreme pain.
Again all this can be remedied at a bike shop and having your bike properly fitted.

Take your bike to a bike shop and tell them your problem. They will show you a couple of different types of seats and seat coverings for you to choose from. I recently bought a brand new seat and it is more comfortable now. It has big coil springs on the underside of it so that when I hit a bump the bike bounces and my butt doesn't.

There are padded shorts you can buy. Or you can also get a gel-filled padded seat cover for your seat. Check with your local bike shop, they may have some more options.

Your bottom may feel sore after riding a bicycle because as you are pedaling you rear is sitting on a hard seat and you have to realize while riding you go over bumps and as you ride over the bumps on a trail or sidewalk you tend to bounce up and down while sitting on the seat.
Best advice get some cushion for the seat

It is the fault of the seat SHAPE.
My (granted 35 y.o. 10-speed) bicycle had a "pear-shaped" seat that let me continue biking well into my early teens. With height adjustment and re-re-adjustment, I biked all over the neighborhood without much discomfort.
As I grew (larger) I did manage to have to change the seat on my bicycle, due to wearing out.
Now, 25 years later, that 10-speed has simply rusted away. - Maybe I rode it TOO MUCH?

There are all kinds of seats out there. And some of them are fantastic, I use a Specialized body geometry. Also if you haven't rode for awhile it takes saddle time to get the bum used to it again.
