Hey Guys,

I have my bartending certification, formal training, and former experience. I got a new job at a pub, where they told me I'd be bartending, but its a month later, and I'm stuck in a server's position!!
Is it soo true that who bartends is based on seniority of the workers? I mean, there are ppl behind the bar, who have less experience and knowledge of the job than I do.
Any comments, suggestions?
THX

;)

Approach your manager and explain that although you didn't mind helping out as a server you would now like to work in the position you were hired for. If your request is refused then find another pub to work at.

The work ethics in the bar/restaurant industry are pretty shady so it's imperative that you hold your own and foster confidence in yourself....otherwise you'll be taken for granted. There are hundreds of pubs/bars/restaurants to work at. I wouldn't limit yourself to this place.

It's however the manager or owner decides to run the place of business. There is no formal guideline that blankets the whole food industry.

Ask to be put behind the bar or look for a new job elsewhere.

My family owns restaurants and the only requirement needed to be a bartender is know all of the drinks and suck up to the customer.

From my impression they never had an opening for a bartender in the first place if you are serving.

You've been bait and switched. If you think it's a place that's worth hanging around to get the job for, then find out from the people with sonority how long they have been waiting. Otherwise, get out, and find another job where you think your going to be able to get to where you want.
