If you are in the US. you could get less in federal grants, have less study time, can't join study groups or go to seminars because you're working

The biggest thing I see is that when (some) students work they get more bills because you have an income to buy the car you've wanted which comes with insurance/gas. They start shopping more and going out and with their new lifestyle they can't afford books and tuition because now they make too much for federal help and they didn't set money aside. Now they either have to get loans, drop out, or start going part time. OR they don't like school anyway and at 18/19 with no debt or responsibility a few hundred dollars every payday seems like a lot of money. so they choose money now over the chance at a stable career later,

advantages - it can give you valuable work experience, earn your own money, forced to manage time better, you can say you worked your way through school

Usually not much time for a social life. But then again, not as much time to get into trouble!

You can't focus 100% on your studies. So if you have trouble balancing school/work, grades might suffer.
