Next to other girls and boys in my grade, I feel insecure. I weigh 142 lbs. 5' 4" and 12 years old (a lot of the kids in my grade are really small). My hair is short and I don't like it because I can't do anything with it. All of my clothes are really boring and old, but I can't get new ones because I can't afford any. I'm not exactly the most coordinated, I'm always tripping over things and knocking stuff over. Sometime's I get teased too, not anything serious but enough to make me feel bad. Right now I'm trying to lose weight but can't seem to get any off. What can I do to feel better about myself? Real advice only, please.

You still have years to grow honey. Don't get too despondent about what other people say, children are known for their cruelty.
Tripping over things and bad coordination is a phase that will pass.
What goes on inside you is the most important thing. Have faith in yourself and try not to take too much notice of what other kids say. it's not very nice being teased, but try to stand up
for what you believe in, and stick to it.
Good luck honey.

First of all honey stop worrying about your weight, at 5'4" you are taller than the average child your age. Don't worry about it. Ask your parents to take you to a hair dresser that will give you a style that is easy to maintain or let your hair grow. You can get a lot of very nice clothes at garage sales or second hand stores. But if you want to earn your own money to spend on you, then you could babysit, mow lawns, paper route, walk dogs, shovel driveways in the winter. If you are making your own money it is not coming out of your parents budget. We all have an awkward stage in our life, you will live through it. Learn to laugh at yourself. I have faith in you. I know you can do it. Have fun, God bless and put angels on your pillows.

The person you are is more than the way you look. This I think is the key in feeling beter about yourself. Find other ways (rather than looks) to feel more secure.

For example: knowledge: you may find answers and experience in reading books.
knowledge: you can feel secure by knowing what things in life are important: It's not looks! It's about being kind and understanding to other people.

Other ideas: learn a fighting sport/ do volantary work in the weekend

You should take a martial arts class. Will help you lose weight, will help your coordination, will help with your self esteem. You will make new friends there.
