The accepted theory is that dark skin blocks out more light. This is why people who live around the equator have darker skin, and as you go north or south to colder temps the skin color gets lighter and lighter.

Dark skin is less suseptible to melanomas (skin cancer). Lighter skin lets more light through, aiding in the absorption in vitamin D from the sun. A dark skinned person who lives up North is at risk for vitamin D deficiency. A light skinned person who lives down South is at risk for skin cancer.

It is true that darker colors absorb more light and lighter colors reflect more light, but the human body adapts easily to temperature changes no matter what you skin color is. There are lots of ways for our bodies to maintain the right temperature.

Skin color isnt related to anything else genetcally except sun exposure of your ancestors over the past couple dozen or so generations.

according to an antient science(ayurveda).there are few types of body constitutions.
people with red or blond hair, fair skin and eyes are usually considered as being more active, ambitious and always on the run.they tend to get easily affected and to have digestive and heart problems, high blood pressure etc.so they are hot by nature.
it's no coincidence that blonds and fair skinned people inhabit the colder areas of our planet.they are burning from within and can feel comfortable enough living even with a few sunny months per year.on the other hand they get sweat and red immediately in countries like Spain or Greece, inhabited mostly by brunettes.
Ayurveda tells again that dark-haired and dark eyed men were longing for sunshine (dark colors naturally attract sunlight) and they easily get cold when put in different weather conditions.actually,it doesn't take much of an effort to notice that.
only asians are somewhere in the middle, that's why they are regarded as the most resistable of all.
hope that helped!
all the best!!!

I've heard that darker skinned people can withstand heat more than lighter skins.
