I dont understand why any of them are there. It may be that the British withdrawal would be the key issue in the yanks withdrawing. This is a no win situation. Too many lives have been lost, and the world is a far more dangerous place since the invasion of Iraq for reasons that are extremely suspect. OIL keeps rearing its ugly head.

For thoes of you who think this scale down of manpower in Iraq is the start of a withdrawl on the part of the UK think what the government has actually done, it has rebalanced the army and boosted the manpower in Afganistan ready for the summers fighting.
We are in Iraq for the long term and have the fixed bases to boost our deployment when we feel like it or when the Iran thing kicks off, remember the British armed forces are only 100k large so we have to be very careful where we have the biggest punch at the moment the real action is in Helmand

We shouldn't go away. Iraq is the efficient the front contained in the conflict on terror. As gruesome because it truly is that if we go away now the global will be 1000 cases a lot less threat-free than pre 9/11. we are coping with a large global death cult. Why won't be able to human beings understand the evidence as indicating the severity of the project, which VALIDATES the favor to be there. we are coping with a global death cult whose objective is global domination, and whose chief state, Iran, is on the verge of shopping for nuclear guns. awaken. -Aztec276

Absolutely not. What would be the motivation for the US to cut and run based solely on the eventual withdrawal of less than 6,000 British troops?

Also let's keep in mind British not only still have troops in Afghanistan and recently committed an additional 1,500 soldier to that theater of operation. The Brits are not abandoning the war on terrorism. Their government is dealing with their political realities.

The cities that the British were policing were ready to be turned over to the Iraq to continue handling. Baghdad is not ready yet.

We will not pull out because the British did. We will pull out because the liberal Democrats have NO IDEA what we are fighting for.

The liberals would rather pull out in disgrace rather than finish the job that we started to liberate Iraq. They would rather fight terrorism on our own streets instead of keeping the fighting over there.

The liberals didn't learn anything after the first fight in Kuwait. They wanted to pull out and come home before the job was done. Then we had 9/11 and they backed going back over there to fight terror. Now with their short term memory problems they want us to pull out again and come home before finishing the job. How long will it take before we are attacked again on our own soil?

If the Democrats win the election next year we will pull out. Not with respect like the British did. We will pull out with our tail between our legs.

No, not in the near future.

The British have very nearly done their job, so they don't need to stay much longer. Some troops will stay behind in case they are needed, many others will be sent to Afghanistan.

The Americans are still having trouble.

If the Brits withdraw, it will only make it tougher on our troops because they will have to fill the void created by the Brits exit or they will have to deal with the consequences of additional flare-ups. I personally don't think we'll start to withdraw until we have exhausted every initiative possible to stem the tide of sectarian violence by infusing the region with economic aid sufficient to get people working again long enough to forget their differences and work together instead to improve their conditions. Leastways, that's my take on it.

The British have been in Iraq since 1917. They invented Kuwait so they could rip off Iraqi Oil.During World War II they arrested Sadaams father. It was thier diagonal drilling into Iraqi Oil Fields from Kuwait that caused the Iraqi invasion. Thier hands are bloodier than ours.
