This is a good opportunity for you guys to throw some rocks at the Christians. Are you guys splitting up into two camps? If this is all a hoax, then it has the potential to embarass some atheist pride. Are you siding with these archeologist guys, or think they are just trying to make some dough with the book and all?

If you say that some atheists never said that Jesus never existed, then you are sadly misinformed.

In addition, if you were so sure before, why do you have to weigh the possibilities now? What could you say, Oh, I was arrogantly wrong before?

Athiests never said there wasn't a jesus
Just not a God.

Until you find his/her remains then you can ask this question.

If you think Athiesm means not believing in Jesus, then you are misinformed. I stand corrected I'm sure some athiests say that Jesus never existed but that does not entail the beliefs of athiests.
Sorry

I doubt the veracity of claims made by James Cameron and his archaelogical yes-men. It strikes me as a little suspect that these ossuaries would be sitting in storage for some 20 years and be discovered just now to be the holy relics that Cameron claims. The inscriptions on the outside barely resemble writing at all and there are some archaeologists who feel the marks made could be recent. Even if the marks/writing are legitimate, the names they depict are common for that region and time period and could belong to any Jesus or Mary.

I'm not siding with anyone. I'm waiting for them to produce their evidence and then I'll weigh the various possibilities.

Why would you decide BEFORE you actually knew anything about it? Wouldnt that make you closed-minded and ignorant?

Edit : If ever I were proven wrong, I'd have the class and the honesty to admit it. I'm not Christian, afterall. I don't have to live a lie.

Some atheists believe that he never existed at all, but that is a small number. Most atheists believe he was a real person, but not that he was the son of "God".

I am an atheist, but I have never believed there was no Jesus, just that Jesus was not god. And I am sceptical about the bones.
