Polygamy is bad because it results in a man having at least two mother-in-laws!!!
It is illegal because most men may not think of this beforehand, so it is only to protect us from thinking with the wrong head!!!

Polygamy is not illegal, though many think it is. But, only the first marriage is recognized by the state. The rest of the "wives" are not legal, just spiritual wives. There is nothing that says a man can't have many wives. He just can only legally be married to one woman.
Those polygamists who go to jail, often go because they will sometimes force underage girls to enter into "marriage" with older men, who then in turn engage in sexual activity with those young girls.
Those are the types of things that get a "polygamist" arrested. But, many polygamists, who do not break those laws, live their lives as they wish

I'm not sure why polygamy is illegal. I suppose if a man is a masochist, he should be able to have as many wives as he wants.
Why is it bad? Besides all the mother-in-laws, imagine what the attorney fees, child support, and alimony would be like. ;)

Even in Islaam the Holy Quran says: Four are permitted to you, but one is better for you, if you only knew, one is better for you.
This was at a time that men could have any number of wives and treated them like property. People don't think about that this was a reduction in the allowed number of wives, and a clear guidance to have only one wife.
Most Muslims only have one because it's just nicer and they know about the two mother-in-law issue really well!

Why is it bad? Usually polygamy involves young women usually underage, being forced to become essentially sex slaves and child bearers to older men. It is basically the same thing as rape, or molestation, and the scary part is cultures like Mormons believe that it is normal.

I would have no problems with those who wish polygamy legal, if many of them weren't so against polyandry also being legal. It's called equality before the law, guys.

good question considering even Moses took a second wife from another tribe. Sephora was dumped and there's no explanation in the bible as to why Moses did such a thing, but his brother and sister are none too pleased with him for doing such a thing. And him a Jew!!!!
