Walter Reed Hospital was on the list of bases to close. Members of the Senate armed forces committee should have checked to see if it was serviceable for an inlux if Vets in need.

Carved in Stone is wrong! The base closer list came during the Clinton administration and the democrats were the majority of senate. The Clinton administration closed bases and cut military budget so they could afford to support welfare programs that they supported. Now that the military needs things like medical facilities and armor to protect our fighting men and women there isn't enough funding to do the job. Bet if someone checked funds were requested to improve the conditions at Walter Reed Hospital. However, it takes years to get increased funding for any military program. But, we have enough for the liberal democrats to give illegal immigrates benefits.

When the Clinton Administration closed MCAS El Toro, CA in the mid 1990's. It was suggested that the base housing be turned over to low income housing. After inspection the housing was found unfit for welfare families to live in. Yet the military couldn't get funding to improve the conditions there while enlisted and officers lived in that same housing.

Politicians are like Monday morning quarterbacks, they are pro-active about nothing and criticize everything, especially if the target is a political opponent. Shame on these presidential candidates who are coming out and shooting off their pie holes because Bob Woodward feels the need to criticize the Army. What he fails to take into account is this is a bureaucracy at work, and one that saved his butt !

It will never be like a competitive, free market hospital because it's run be people who are appointed, not by people who have shown their ability to perform. Aesthetics are never a big issue, when it comes to government establishments, and the after market is always the first to get it, when budget cuts are on the front burner.

So, this is a case of what goes around, comes around ! Congress, in it's infinite wisdom of slashing military budgets should be prepared to take it's part of the blame, too ! Or, perhaps appropriation committees who sit around figuring out the best way to spend the budget, should be another bunch of bureaucrats to eat a little dodo over this.

Somebody should have been looking. Now that the problem is identified, the General in charge was fired. It will be rectified in short order.
Someone also needs to look at all the public hospitals around, some are pretty scary.

The Senate trusts it's Generals to do what they have been placed in command to do...So they fired the offender and will replace him/them wih otherrs.
