Not all pagans participate in Esbats, that is normally a rite for practitioners of various forms of witchcraft.

Among those that follow the Nordic gods, it is believed that the sun and moon are chased across the sky by two giant wolves who are attempting to swallow them. Eclipses are casued when one of the wolves gets close enough to either the sun or moon and it disappears birefly into the gaping maw of the beast. At the time or Ragnarok, the wolves will catch and swallow the sun and moon.
