The question should be can there be a marriage without commitment first? Emotional commitment is not easy to hold back, that is why it is important to maintain a safe distance so that your emotional closeness does not end up in betrayal. YOU Want to be able to walk away still feeling whole and possessing your self esteem even in front of the ex-date.
In short emotional commitment that lead to kissing, and subsequently intimate lovemaking is a sure way to heartbreak.
Guys like to marry a lady who has will power and confidence to refuse sexual involvement before marriage. That kind good quality is becoming rare.

My grandmother was an ordained minister.
The older I get the less the bible makes sense to me not that don't believe in god. Having said that, how can you have a relationship with anyone without having an emotional commitment. If some dies that you talked to in a store one time you may not feel bad, but if you have spent any amount of time with them you would feel sorrow. isn't that a commitment? you had to have care at some level

Hope this helps

you can't have any relationship without emotional issues being involved. even with your best friends of the same sex you have you're not married to them. My "hubby" and i have been together two years we talk about getting married but neither of us is too worried about it if it doesn't happen a lot of good relationships do not last long after the marriage papers have been signed. But to answer your question; there is different levels of emotional commitments. and you really cant be around anyone without some level of emotional commitments.

I think instead it means that you should not be trying to look for your potential spouse. You should instead be developing friendships and having a good time with your peers. And eventually, that person will come along. Love comes when you least expect it and you should let God handle the right timing. For He has a plan for you already.

"A great friendship is the way to a great love."

Friendships are the best basis for relationships.

My boyfriend and I were actually friends for a long time before we started going out. We've been together for over a year and plan on getting married after college.

Back in biblical times, most marriages were arranged between two families and the man and woman involved often only had veto. In the modern world, commitment to a partner before marriage is a necessity for marriage

Ah... the bible.
Well... it was written quite a long time ago. It's got some really nice ideas, but seems to be a bit of a stretch on most areas these days (they still have slaves in the bible... I don't see too many people rushing out to buy them now and justifying it because it is in the bible, do you?)
Follow the tenants of christianity... do unto others, honor your parents, don't commit adultry, don't steal/kill/cheat etc etc... but don't try to translate that book (written by men, many many years ago) too literally.

Whats the point of dating for you? Having fun or finding a long term partner?

You shouldn't give in emotionally if you know the person you're dating is not the right person for a long term relationship

I think it's talking about an entirely different thing than you are.
It's explaining the importance of finding good FRIENDS...
Not just searching for boyfriends/girlfriends.
