I am in the process of making French onion soup for dinner. I should have known better than to make it for company before trying it myself. Anyway, company should be here any minute. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could use to remove some of the sweetness from this otherwise great dish?

Thank you all!

How is the saltiness?

I would suggest just adding a bullion cube to increase the broth soup flavor and the saltiness.

Also, a little acidity tends to lessen the saltiness... a touch of apple cider vinegar?

Get the onion out and replace with a different type maybe the type of onion you used is the sweet type-bummer

Boil it and reduce it! Full boil. Then add another cup of water and some beef base/boullion. The salt should counter-act the sugar.

(Good luck, my last batch was too salty and that can't be fixed!)
