I think that it's a tie between Paul Hobbs and Ramey...they both make MAGNIFICENT chardonnays. Mmmm, my mouth is watering just thinkin' about it!!
Although wine is so subjective and that's why it's so great! If we're talkin' inexpensive wine, I love McManis Chardonnay and Wente...both can be found at Beverages and More.

The best chardonnay comes from Burgundy in France. It's named after the village that the grapes come from. It's Corton-Charlemagne. There are a number of producers who make this wine like Louis Jadot, Louis Latour, Bonneau Du Martray, Rapet. Generally you can expect to pay in excess of $100 per bottle for these wines. If you drink a wine like this you will never be able to drink Yellowtail again.

depends on what STYLE of chardonnay you mean
Cuvaison is a nice Cali style chard
Luquet St Veran is a nice entry level unoaked Burgundy
had one from Armida once that struck me as a peculiar third style -- seemed to have a floral nose (unique for chard but not bad at all)

I have no idea anymore. I used to love it before they started doing barrel-fermentation. Now it all tastes like thick oaky butter. It's like drinking grease.
If I had to choose one, try one from Markham. It might not be barrel-fermented.
