Which one works better? I've heard pro's and con's of both.
In case it makes a difference they are a male and female American Eskimo's.

Any additional training suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks, everyone!

Puppy Pads, once the bladder releases more urine. For very young puppies newspapers are fine because they only pee a couple drops, but once they are a couple months old switch to puppy pads.

I found that newspapers smelt bad almost immediately with larger amounts of urine, and often the urine would run off. It also goes strait through.

If you choose to use newspapers, put a plastic bag underneath and put layers of newspaper - I also recommend sprinkling a lot of baking soda or baby powder below the first layer of newspapers, and sprinkle a small amount of baby powder on top of the newspapers. That is what I did when I would run out of puppy pads, but by then she was already trained except for when I leave the house.

Try to only use the pads for emergencies though - take your pups outside frequently, and reward them like crazy for using the grass. To make it even more fun, try to train them to ring a bell when they need to go pee/poo.

My family got a puppy 10 months ago I suggest using a cage. Most puppies do not like to go to the bathroom when in their own bed. I do not use the cage for punishments. Take the puppy out a lot and I suggest newspaper. Our dog a mixed Shepherd and hound dog has not gone in the house in a long time. I think we had him a couple months. Miles was potty trained. I think males go more often until they are fixed. Depending how big the dog is.
I hope this helps. I am no expert just experience.

Take the puppy out from the beginning get a good routine

Puppy Pads. They are a lot easier to dispose of. Plus the pee won't go through them on the floor. Newspapers are way to messy. Even with trash bags under them, the pee can still get on the floor. Puppy Pads were made for this job.

We have a dachshund and we use both. What we do is put a puppy pad in front of the door of our bathroom because that's where we put her at night and then we put a few pieces of newspaper down behind that. During the daytime thought try to take them out about every hour and if they seem to be sniffing around alot then take them out for a few minutes.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/J27jk

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Puppy pads by their food since they won't mess up the area they eat in or simply take them outside after they eat and they will start going to the door and waiting to go out to do their business.

PUPPY PADS ARE WAY BETTER. NO LEAKS (THERE PLASTIC LINED AND USUALLY HAVE AN ADDED ARM AND HAMMER POWDER) NEWSPAPERS ARE HARD TO GET THEM OFF OF BECAUSE YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE THAT MATERIAL IN YOUR HOUSE. PUPPY PADS AREEASYER TO WEEN OFF OF. START WITH FOUR (OR HOW EVER MANY YOU WANT) AND WORK YOUR WAY DOWN WHEN YOU SEE THAT THE PUPPYS ARE GETTING ONLY ON THE PAPER. GOOD LUCK!

Neither! Stick to crate-training.

When you take away the paper/pads, where do you think they are going to go? They are used to going on the floor and will continue doing it. Take them outside and make them do it out there.
