true true, but allot of people are afraid of compatibility issues, like the programs they use not being available on a Linux or mac system... the slightly or severely computer illiterate sect are afraid of trying a new OS as well...

It could be because PCs are much cheaper than Macs and people are always looking for a bargain! It's a bit like buying the cheap Baked beans from the Shop to save money and then moaning about the poor taste. Trouble is, once they've gone and spent their money on one of those inferior PCs, they're stuck with it. It's a great pity that people don't get to understand the total differences in build quality and security that the Macs enjoy over the PCs. I've always had a Mac, stating with the Performa 460+, then a Powermac 7200/75, a Powermac 4400/240, and I'm now running on my last machine, a G3/450.
All the old Macs are still working, which is more than you can ever say for the average PC!!
Long live the Mac...........Wyn

This does sound like an ad, but there's the issue of popularity. Any popular OS would suffer from spyware and stuff.
Mac OS just doesn't feel right to me. There's not enough programs on it and isn't open-source
Linux is the way to go, but there's the issue that you need to set up WINE to get it to run Windows games, and it has a steep learning curve. If they can fix most of the software and hardware incompatibility issues (The FSF is working hard on it!), maybe Linux would be more popular.
Unfortunately, big business isn't buying Linux as a good thing. It'll take a miracle to force the empires to be friendly with the consumer once again. To do that, they must remove DRM (It rewards pirates and hurts the good paying consumer!), and move to Linux!

Mac and Linux "immunity" to viruses is a myth. A clever hacker could come up with a virus for those OSs, if there was any information worth stealing on those OSs.
80% of all software is Windows software. Mac had to make emulators to run Windows software in order to stay in business.
Futhermore, no major computer manufacter sells off the rack pcs with Linux.
Thus, Microsoft continues its "monopoly".

Well, that is an incredibly good question. I suppose it would be due to the market dominance of Microsoft in the business sector and hence most everywhere else. If you use a Windows System at work are you not more likely to use one at home. I have convinced two people to switch to Mac's a close friend with a teenage boy that really like the websites where you tend to get viruses and my Niece. Both are very happy that they have no computer problems.

Most programs run on Windows. And Microsoft makes a lot of things compared to Mac.

Because they are ignorant and think Windows it the only OS out there. If they do know about Mac OS they say it sucks because they are stupid. They will even ask how do I delete the Mac os and put windows on it. They do not know the power of root. Some people even think that Dell has its own OS. How sad is that? I myself am a Linux user and hate seeing people asking questions like "how do I get IE7 on my Mac/Linux computer" and other stupid questions to get windows applications on a Mac.

People are more used to Windows, as it is more spread, and i think most people have change issues. Why change, if Windows is ok (in their thoughts). People don't need more than that. If someone came to the US and said, we're using Celsius instead of Fahrenheit, you'd say why bother?
Also I think there are a lot more games or any other software that runs on windows platfroms.
