Credit available has little to do with it. What they are doing is creating identites. For example even a childs social security number can be used to create a profile and gain access to funds as well as this country. No one seems to confirm the age of the social security #. The fact that you have a small limit credit card actually makes you a prime target - you need to watch your credit record and report any changes promptly to have them corrected. ID theft works because people don't check their credit and social security reports. By keeping an eye and reporting any errors you are taking the best steps to a safe Identity. Talk to your bank or local Neighborhood watch to get more details on how to protect your ID - like lock your mail box, shred all personal information, register for a credit report system and uses it. Also check your social security report for errors if it reflects jobs you haven't had or income you can not account for flag it and have it investigated someone may be using your # to work here illegally. Good Luck!

Hackers will use ANYTHING they can get their hands on! Just because you have one "good" credit card doesn't mean that they can't apply for additonal credit if they have your information. If you've been paying on time and taking care of the card, they can actually use that as a springboard to get bigger things, especially without your knowledge. Anyone can be a target, even people with horrible credit are at risk.

They can steal your identity and open a credit card/take out loan themselve. So it doesnt matter what's ur credit card limit is.

For this reason, everyone should be careful with identity theft

Your available balance is not the real issue. Once they get your information they can open new accounts in your name and trash your credit.
