* I think that some people can't accept others for who they are simply because they can't and won't accept themselves.
Sounds like that person who said that to you wants to change you. Acceptance is at face value. It isn't about rearranging you or changing you. They sometimes mask it by acting as though they want the best for you, yet they have no true knowledge what is really best for you, you need to make that decision for yourself.
Life is complex yet wonderful.

Yes people do it every day, at least the smart ones do. Accepting people for who they are makes you see things more clearly and helps life to be less complicated. It becomes complicated when you try to make someone something they aren't. Celebrate individuality and just love. You would want the same in return.

Yes, life is complicated but if we are to love others the way Jesus loved us then we will strive to truly accept them for who they are. The World is good at preferential treatment (e.g. racism, prejudice, bigotry, intolerance, etc). As Christians, we have the love of God in us so we can demonstrate a different standard called unconditional love. That should be our goal.

Everyone is equal because they come from the same source. Why fret about meaningless things when we all have a loving and caring soul. Even those who do not show it have that emotion of love inside of them, it is just pent up more than most people, or maybe everyone has it pent up inside of them. But the important thing is to let it out and experience the wonder of life.

I think we can have it as an ideal to strive for. We all perceive from our own point of view I think...and sometimes that causes us to make wrong assumptions about others. We should learn from that and realize we need to look at where those wrong assumptions are coming from and if we need to change some of those beliefs.
On the other hand...your someone is right, lol...we do have to accept people for who they are if we are going to be around them as we can not change others to suit ourselves.

it really depends on who the person is. it the person is wanting something from you then no way to tell if they really accept you!
If they are someone that you've known for a long time like a best friend (at least 5 yrs. of friendship). ceartain people want only their way and just don't hang out with them!

i believe they can. if a person really truly reaches deep down inside themself, they'll find that they can accept everyone for who they are. they may not like who that person is or what they do, but they will accept who you are and either move on or try and help you out in your weak areas. people who deny you for who you are aren't worth your time. a person who loves you and accepts you for who you are because you are so close to perfect to them is a person you never want to lose. so hold on to them, they'll be one of the most important people in your life.

I accept people for who they are because I take a non judgemental approach to life. I accept that what works for you is what works for you. If your honest, kind hearted, and fun to be around I could care less about anything else about you. That includes, your believes, religion, or your IQ.

No one can, that fails eventually, a certain person may be able to accept some people "for who they are" but eventually they reach a point where that is not true, can you accept a mass murderer for who they are? I can't

Nope, it is much easier to point out what is wrong with other people than to look at yourself. Also, humans do not have infinate love or unconditional compassion for each other the closest we come to that is the parent-child bond.
