It was announced that when stolen, the Edvard Munch painting "Scream" was damaged in such a way that it cannot be completely repaired. My question is how many people actually care? I've always thought Munch's artwork had little to redeem it.

I'll admit, I've never been to Oslo and seem Scream up close.

On my last visit to the Louvre I did see one or two paintings, and there were not many people there that day which was nice, longer to study what I liked, and fewer pickpockets.

Not sure, I never really liked it myself anyway, but I'm sure I'll get bombarded with negatives.

It matters a lot. I suppose that you have not ever seen an original MONET up close. It is MOVING. However Norman Rockwell's are BLAND....very very revealing Rockwell never got over wanting to paint like one of his contemporaries. Picasso's early work is moving. Rembrandt are peaceful in execution. Seeing a work in its original form and sometimes in it's original setting makes all the difference in the world. If you can be moved by music you can be moved by art.

Go look at REAL paintings. Sooner or later you will appreciate what feeling is transmitted to you. You can't get it from a print. BTW DON"T EVER BY ANY PRINT...

it's no big loss on my life but it is a shame, I've been a fan of that piece sense the first time I've seen it. Luckaly there are so many reproductions of that piece that it will never really be lost.

Brace yourself. All the people who love the Emperor's new clothes, also fiercely love Munch.

so you dont like this painting, that much is obvious....but to not care about art that has been damaged and was respected and appreciated by the many is discouraging...you dont HAVE to like it..but to shrug off the damage because of it is lame..it would be like shrugging off the damage to the Pieta when that man took a hammer to it because you dont like Michaelangelo...because this is something that cannot be replaced by the original artist and it is a one of a kind thing...appreciate it for itself..

At least two people care -- the guy who owns it, and the insurance carrier who insured it.
