STEP 1: Swallow 1 tsp. white table sugar, dry. A study found that this stopped hiccups immediately in 19 out of 20 people. Repeat up to three more times at 2-minute intervals if necessary.

STEP 2: Gulp down a glass of water if the sugar doesn't work.

STEP 3: Eat a piece of dry bread slowly.

STEP 4: Breathe in and out of a paper bag. Do not use a plastic bag under any circumstances, and don't do this longer than 1 minute.

STEP 5: Gargle with water.

STEP 6: Repeat the above steps until your hiccups stop.

as soon as i get 1 hiccup i hold my breath and swallow 3 times. its hard and it may take a while but keep doing it and it'll work i promise. i only ever have 1 hiccup. you can breathe gently through your nose but make sure you don't let air out of your mouth and concentrate on swallowing. its best to catch hiccups early but if it doesn't work, keep going. and next time, do it after the first one.

Try taking 8 sips of water slowly, not breathing between your sips. That always works for me.

If that doesn't work, just hold your breath.

If that doesn't work, try to tell someone exactly when you are going to hiccup next...that takes your mind off of it, and puts your focus on something else. It actually works too. Hope that works and good luck!

Take a deep breath, and hold it for 10 seconds. Then breathe out slowly.

This relaxed the diaphragm which is currently spasming causing the hickups

Tell her to drink water from the opposite side of the glass, doing this over the sink is best. It never fails for me.

my cure for hiccps is to burp.

just like charlie and the chocolate factory, when he drinks the lemonade. He hiccups to rise to the ceiling and then burps to get down again.

it works for me!
