Marijuana should be legalized as there are other things that are destroying the health of this country such as alcohol and the most addicting drug, nicotine. Regulating and taxing the sales of marijuana would be viable solution to the handling of marijuana in the U.S.

From NORML:

As President Jimmy Carter acknowledged: "Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana in private for personal use."

Marijuana prohibition needlessly destroys the lives and careers of literally hundreds of thousands of good, hard-working, productive citizens each year in this country. More than 700,000 Americans were arrested on marijuana charges last year, and more than 5 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana offenses in the past decade. Almost 90 percent of these arrests are for simple possession, not trafficking or sale. This is a misapplication of the criminal sanction that invites government into areas of our private lives that are inappropriate and wastes valuable law enforcement resources that should be focused on serious and violent crime.

It does seem like a good idea , people that want the marijuana
are going to buy from some person selling and making a fortune.
I don't understand why Washington as bad as the people that are sure in need of help want legalize it.
There always stating we just can't fit these drug treatment centers into our budget, what budget, there is no budget it has gone bye, bye. Keep some of that money that is being stolen that they say is going to Iraq or either legalize marijuana, but if they did they would take that money and STATE it is needed for Iraq. BALONEY.

jh 6 - Why would you buy moonshine if you could go to the liquor store and buy something that tastes good? Same idea goes into taxing marijuana. If it's legal and sold in stores, why would you buy it on the street?

If we follow Amsterdam's example, it could not only benefit the national budget, but it would greatly benefit the American people.
In Amsterdam marijuana is legal to purchase and smoke in coffee shops. Since the legalization of marijuana the country has seen a rapid decline in all other drug use. In fact, the vast majority of "hard" drug users are those that started their drug use before the law change.

I believe that illegal drugs should be legalized. It would help the economy greatly. The profit from these sales should NOT be used to treat drug addicts. That is not the governments responsibility.

Yes. Tax weed and use the profits to fight all other drugs. The disease kills itself off.

Too bad we can't do terrorists like that. There's food for thought huh?

yes pot should be legalized, i donno about taxed, but why should it go to heroin and meth users. it should go to helping the environment becuase if it was leglized we could make gas from the hemp and that would be way cheaper plus we could also save trees too since you can make plastic, paper, clothes, etc all from hemp and u can grow more on a smaller amout of property that trees grow on.

We are never going to stop it's use. One option is to tax it and balance the budget.
